The Interview Day

General Application Process for Geisinger Med-Peds 2023-2024:
-
Size of intern class: 5
-
We only accept applications through ERAS.
-
Applications are reviewed in their entirety by our leadership team prior to interview selection.
-
Our leadership team takes a holistic approach by taking into account the whole person. Academic performance, letters of recommendation, MSPE, scholarly activity, leadership roles, activities, and personal statement will be equally weighted.

Number and types of letters of recommendations:
-
Please provide 3 letters written by individuals that know you well.
-
Ideally, at least one letter should be from either Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.

Timeline specific to 2023-2024:
-
Applications review process begins September 27th, 2023.
-
Our first round of interview invitations will be sent out by mid October with our first interview day being October 18th, 2023.
-
Applications submitted after mid-October will be reviewed on a rolling basis by our leadership team and interviews will be offered according to availability.

Our approach to Step 1 and 2:
-
No minimum score requirement, however we expect applicants to have passed Step 1
-
USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX 1 results are a fraction of the entire application that we review
-
USMLE Step 2 is not required prior to application submission, but is required prior to rank list submission deadline
-
Results not uploaded into ERAS by the deadline, the Program Administrator will contact the applicant to submit the result.
-
However, we strongly encourage applicants to show improvement when they may have had difficulty with USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX 1.

Please ensure that you are dressed in professional attire for your interview day.
-
We will be utilizing Zoom for your interview day. You will receive an email closer to your interview day with specific Zoom login information. Please install the application on an electronic device and ensure that you are in a quiet room with good internet access. Additionally, we will need a phone number as an alternate method of communication.
-
Please be cognizant of ambient noise and utilize the “mute” function while in large groups when needed.
-
We understand that technical difficulties may occur. Therefore, it is imperative that you contact our Program Administrator as soon as possible, to hold your interview slot. This will be held for 20 minutes from the start of the interview day. If you do not contact our Program Administrator within that time frame, we will assume that you are not interested in keeping your slot and will not be rescheduled, unless you contact us to further discuss.

Our Interview Day Structure:
-
The interview day is structured so you can learn all about our program, speak with our Chief Residents, meet our residency leadership team, and the opportunity to meet our amazing residents!
-
Your interview day will start with a virtual meet and greet with our residents at 8:00 am (for morning interviewees) or at 12:30 pm (for afternoon interviewees). You will need to meet Alicia 10-minutes prior to this; this is considered a mandatory part of the interview day.
-
There will be a 20-minute question and answer session with one of our Chief Residents following the resident meet and greet.
-
A 20-minute Program Director Q&A presentation will follow the Chief Resident Q&A.
-
There will be a total of four 25-minute interviews with members of our leadership team and chief residents.
-
There will be a 5-minute break between each interview to refresh and keep the day on time along with a 5-10 minute break for all participants at a mid-point of the interviews.
-
Additionally, there will be a 25-minute break depending on the numbers of applicants for the session. During your scheduled break, you will have the opportunity to interact with some of our residents and program administrator. Please utilize this time for any necessary breaks away from your computer. Mute and turn off videos during these breaks.
-
At the end of your scheduled interview day, our Program Administrator will close the breakout rooms and conclude your interview day.
-
Within the week following your interview day, our chief residents will be in contact to answer any of your additional questions.
